Rescue Dawn

After getting shot down in Laos, Dieter Dengler is captured, tortured, and eventually transported to a remote POW camp where he is united with fellow American pilots with the same problem. With the arrival of Dengler, a new spirit emerges among the group, and an escape plan soon hatches. RESCUE DAWN is a story of struggle, friendship, keeping one's sanity, and survival amidst a war-brewing Vietnam and its inhospitable jungles. Werner Herzog does a great job with his direction, giving his actors full reign as well as inspiring them to their creative peaks. Each actor in the film does their best with each role; none becoming too hammy or extreme in their techniques; with Bale, Zahn, and Davies all shedding flesh as well as comfort in preparation for their tasking roles. Great cinematography throughout, as the Laotian backdrop is realized vividly; looming stone cliffs and walls of vine add further quality to the prison feel, and empty fields and lush rain forest paints the wild of Vietnam effectively. The music is excellent, and serves the film nobly, never trying too hard for tears or pity. RESCUE DAWN is a feel-good movie without really trying to become one, which is where so many survival and hardship movies fail; but any imperfections this film does have, is certainly overshadowed by its obvious technical genius, excellent acting, and courageous story.

Beowulf & Grendel

The blood-soaked tale of a Norse warrior's battle against the great and murderous troll, Grendel. Heads will roll. Out of allegiance to the King Hrothgar, the much respected Lord of the Danes, Beowulf leads a troop of warriors across the sea to rid a village of the marauding monster. The monster, Grendel, is not a creature of mythic powers, but one of flesh and blood - immense flesh and raging blood, driven by a vengeance from being wronged, while Beowulf, a victorious soldier in his own right, has become increasingly troubled by the hero-myth rising up around his exploits. Beowulf's willingness to kill on behalf of Hrothgar wavers when it becomes clear that the King is more responsible for the troll's rampages than was first apparent. As a soldier, Beowulf is unaccustomed to hesitating. His relationship with the mesmerizing witch, Selma, creates deeper confusion. Swinging his sword at a great, stinking beast is no longer such a simple act. The story is set in barbarous Northern Europe where the reign of the many-gods is giving way to one - the southern invader, Christ. Beowulf is a man caught between sides in this great shift, his simple code transforming and falling apart before his eyes. Vengeance, loyalty and mercy powerfully entwine. A story of blood and beer and sweat, which strips away the mask of the hero-myth, leaving a raw and tangled tale.

Particularly with an undertaker who botches his work, the return from the USA from his famous but selfish brother, his cousin's fiancé who has accidentally ingested drugs, the presence a moron who takes advantage of the sad event to win back the heart (or rather the body) of a woman who is about to marry another, of a handicapped old uncle who is also the most unbearable pain in the neck. To cap it all, Daniel notices the presence among the mourners of a mysterious dwarf nobody else seems to know...

The Bourne Ultimatum

The first word to come too mind as I sat in my seat & watched this was "WOW!"...what a amazing movie...it went WAY beyond expectations too a place I didn't expect it to go...the acting is great as expected & if u have followed the series the story goes where u will expect it to go.If there is something I must praise above all else it is the pace at which they made it....its almost PERFACT!...it isn't break neck like many action flicks & its not too slow like many dramas that try to be as grown up as possible & in doing so take away from the story & the joy of its viewers(see "The Good Shepard")....the pace gives u plenty of well thought out, tight action scenes & also leaves u on the edge of ur seat w/ suspense...To me this was the strongest episode in the trilogy...better then Identity in every way which is saying something....& it is FAR better then that sloppy mess of a movie Supremacy...over all VERY PLEASED & YES I'LL EVEN CALL IT A MUST SEE!...I am even forgiving Damon & the director for there disrespectful comments they made about the Bond franchise of which I am very fond...they used words like "relic" & "irrelevant" & to me after Casino Royale came out there comments are simply prooven wrong...

Day Watch

Day watch manages to be something none of those Hollywood sci-fi saga type movies never could. It combines EVERYTHING in itself. Action, drama, suspense, CGI that's definitely better, and more believable, than in any of the matrix movies, a very intricate plot, that you have to follow carefully throughout the movie, wonderful acting and great dialogs. Well you'd say, lord of the rings has all of that too. The only thing that lord of the rings lacks is that, those three hours get a little bit boring at times. I don't know why, but i know i'm not the only one who feels that way. Day watch is three hours long too. After the movie, i went back to the ticket shop, and watched it again. That totals up to six hours of movie watching. And it wasn't boring even for a second. So why did i give it a nine? It suffers from the same thing the first movie suffered. The whole super power thing is not really explained, no one ever tells the audience how they work. You just have to live with it.

Documentary look at health care in the United States as provided by profit-oriented health maintenance organizations (HMOs) compared to free, universal care in Canada, the U.K., and France. Moore contrasts U.S. media reports on Canadian care with the experiences of Canadians in hospitals and clinics there. He interviews patients and doctors in the U.K. about cost, quality, and salaries. He examines why Nixon promoted HMOs in 1971, and why the Clintons' reform effort failed in the 1990s. He talks to U.S. ex-pats in Paris about French services, and he takes three 9/11 clean-up volunteers, who developed respiratory problems, to Cuba for care. He asks of Americans, "Who are we?"

The hitch is that to bring this about, the two of them will have to officially register as "domestic partners." Originally, they intend on keeping their "relationship" a secret, but when the government starts sending inspectors around to verify the validity of their claim, Chuck and Larry are left with the choice of admitting to the scam and going to jail or convincing everyone around them that they are indeed an actual couple.

Planet Terror

"Planet Terror" should in no remote way be taken seriously is mainly because it is a component part of "Grindhouse". For those of you unfamiliar with this term it basically means that this movie was never intended to be a blockbuster, a movie of epic proportions, or one of mediocre quality for that manner. It is just an homage to the hundreds of really cheesy, stupid and sometimes downright disgusting B-movies that have ever hit any screen, be it large, small, American or *insert your country here*. So, in this tradition, Planet Terror had to be as reminiscent of those productions as possible. This is the main reason for which PT is, for lack of a better word, stupid. However, in it's stupidity, exaggeration, and most of all majestic lack of any and all kind of logic, PT is entertaining and has a certain unique look and feel to it. If you don't have nay problem with any of the following: zombies that decompose in the most disgusting of ways (and let's not forget all of the guts, limbs, bodies and blood flying around), some of the most stupid deaths ever seen on screen, lots of bullets, seeing Fergie's brain get eaten, a chick who gets a machine gun for a leg and acting that is in no way even close to an Oscar-winning performance, then is definitely the move for you. My recommendation is that you go to your local cinema or rent this movie, kick back on your seat or couch, and start cracking popcorn like there is no tomorrow (that is if you think all of the sick things on-screen won't cause you any problems) and just enjoy some of the spectacular and hilariously stupid scenes in this movie.

Walking Tall-Lone Justice

This movie is just another average action flick, but it could have been so much better. When the guns come out they really needed some choreography help. Someone like Andy McNabb - who made that brilliant action sequence in Heat as they move up the street from the robbery - would have turned the dull action sequences into something special. Because the rest of the film was alright - predictable but watchable - better than you would expect from this type of movie. Then came the final scene, the show-down, the one we had been waiting for, but was like watching something from the A-Team in the 80s. They shoot wildly, nothing hits, and they run around a house trying to kill each other - same old, same old.

Deck The Halls

This movie started out with good intentions. The small town was likable. With the actors in this movie I thought it would have been much better. How sad that this movie had such a WEAK script and plot and far fetched situations like the way that DeVito 'sold' Broderick a car. There was no chemistry between the characters. Bad attempts at subplots involving his relationship with Broderick's family were left at mere attempts. I am a fan of Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation and wanted to see at least a Christmas 'decorating war' -this was not even close to the humor and great characters in 'vacation'. I will also be hesitant to see another movie with DeVito and Matthew Broderick in them.

Transformers

A long time ago, far away on the planet of Cybertron, a war was being waged between the noble Autobots (led by the wise Optimus Prime) and the devious Decepticons (commanded by the dreaded Megatron) for control over the Allspark, a mystical talisman that would grant unlimited power to whoever possessed it. The Autobots managed to smuggle the Allspark off the planet, but Megatron blasted off in search of it. He eventually tracked it to the planet of Earth (circa 1850), but his reckless desire for power sent him right into the Arctic Ocean, and the sheer cold forced him into a paralyzed state. His body was later found by Captain Archibald Witwicky, and before going into a comatose state Megatron used the last of his energy to engrave a map, showing the location of the Allspark, into the Captain's glasses, and send a transmission to Cybertron. He is then carted away by the Captain's ship. A century later, Sam Witwicky, nicknamed Spike by his friends, buys his first car. To his shock, he discovers it to be Bumblebee, an Autobot in disguise who is to protect Spike, as he bears the Captain's glasses and the map carved on them. But Bumblebee is not the only Transformer to have arrived on Earth - in the desert of Qatar, the Decepticons Blackout and Scorponok attack a U.S. military base, causing the Pentagon to send their special Sector Seven agents to capture all "specimens of this alien race," and Spike and his girlfriend Mikaela find themselves in the middle of a grand battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons, stretching from Hoover Dam all the way to Los Angeles. Meanwhile, within the depths of Hoover Dam, the cryogenically stored form of Megatron awakens...

The Invisible

I think people are exaggerating over the movie being so horrible. I saw previews of this months and months ago and promised myself I'd see it the first night it came out. I was not disappointed! Afte seeing the reviews on IMDb I was afraid I'd go and be upset, but nope! It was very captivating and a very neat movie. I do think some of the characters were a little bland, but the main ones like Powell and Annie were not. If you already had plans to see this, I would suggest still seeing it in theaters! As the plot goes, Annie is a very evil girl. I can't describe her any better. The previews make you think she is the girlfriend of Powell. In fact, she's the one who just about kills him. The story isn't so much just about Powell, but both him and Annie. He has to try and tell Annie she can still have a chance to do one good thing in her life by telling the police where his body is. If you enjoy movies that are about the boundaries of life and death, then definitely see this. It can be humorous, but it's a suspenseful and even heartbreaking film towards the end. It wasn't what I expected. Yes, some things are obvious and you can figure them out, but overall it was a good film and doesn't deserve all the harsh criticism.

The Tiger's Tail

This new film is very peculiar. PURPORTING to be about the Celtic Tiger and modern Ireland, it is curiously insipid. Despite setting out to be satirical, it falls flat. Hard to pin down exactly why, but probably due to laziness on the the filmmakers behalf. Why isn't he making satirical films about London? Brendan Gleeson is okay, but the two characters he plays stretch the imagination. Catrall isn't really credible as an Irish woman and some of her lines are hard to listen to. The camera-work is surprisingly dull, as some of his previous films have looked great, and doesn't make anyone look good. That said you should check it out, if only cos he is the same filmmaker who made Point Blank and Deliverance, and its a paradox to see how far off these classics he has drifted.

Snoop Dogg's Hood Of Horror

Maybe the best bad movie of 2006. It's an amateurish horror anthology hosted by Snoop Dogg. The stories are dumb and often nonsensical, but there's enough amusing stuff to make it worthwhile. Any movie where Snoop Dogg blows a chihuahua into smithereens or where a gangsta impales himself on his own forty has to be worth at least something! The second segment of three (not counting the terribly animated opening) is by far the most entertaining, where a redneck trust fund kid, subtly named Tex Jr. and partly modeled after the President (played by Anson Mount), has to move in with some old black veterans who served under his father in Vietnam. Mount's performance is as offensive as anything Stepin Fetchit could ever produce, but it's just so damn funny. Recognizable actors include Billy Dee Williams (aka Lando Calrissian), Ernie Hudson (aka Winston Zedmore, the black Ghostbuster), Danny Trejo (the Columbian knife thrower from Desperado), Jason Alexander (George from Seinfeld), Aries Spears (a player on MAD TV) and Lin Shaye (the ugly woman from Kingpin and There's Something About Mary, and she's a surprisingly attractive older woman in real life, apparently). If you like bad movies, check it out when it hits video. If you actually want a watchable urban horror film, check out Tales from the Hood.

Oh, and Huck's father (Robert Duvall), a prize winning poker player, is back in town to compete in the high stakes games. Will Huck win big? And, will Billie ever speak to him again? This is a good movie with a few flaws. It has a somewhat slow pace and also suffers from some incredulity as far as Huck's poverty despite his obvious great talent for cards. Nevertheless, Bana is certainly a large part of why the film is so worthwhile, as his Huck is a very charismatic person, indeed. Barrymore is probably miscast as Billie, although that is not to say she performs badly, just nondescriptly, as the role does not call for a display of her comic abilities. Then, too, someone decided to give her the hair styles of a bowling alley queen and the costumes of a dork. On the other hand, and surprisingly, the Las Vegas setting looks gorgeous, even away from the sparkling lights. If you like Bana, and who the heck doesn't, you will not want to miss a showing of this movie. Anyone with a hankering for high-stakes poker will be perfectly enthralled as well.

The Condemned

The Condemned is a movie that kinda come out of the blue to me one day. I had stumbled across it on IMDb and became excited to see it because it seemed like quite an interesting concept. It seemed like a nice action flick - but WWE, the people behind the stupid horror flick "See No Evil", were making it so I was a bit cautious as to what the outcome would be. Surprisingly, this movie has taken me by surprise and I can say that it is a great, fun action movie with great fight scenes, a nice plot and a lot more. The plot revolves around 10 prisoners on death row (including Stone Cold "Steve Austin" himself and Vinnie Jones) who are sent to an island in the middle of nowhere to fight each other to the death as it is broadcast online, leaving one survivor who leaves the island with freedom and a cash prize. The plot is actually the main thing that attracted me to see the movie. It sounds like "Battle Royale", which is a great flick, so it was great to hear a familiar idea bought to the screen again. It's not a stupid plot like it might sound to some people, but it's just a simple one and a fun one which doesn't require much thinking. Most of the fight scenes in the movie are great, and there's plenty of fights, action and explosions going on non-stop throughout the movie. The first few fights I'll admit are the better ones, but the others are good enough too and still entertaining to watch. I feel that certain characters in the movie are killed off rather too quickly though and some seem to disappear for a while, and then sooner or later get killed off the next time we see them again. The character development is good, but I do feel like we could have spent a little bit more time with one or two of them - mainly the women actually. The cast is good too, and provide good performances. Wrestler Steve Austin doesn't give the best performance but he is good enough. I feel some of his lines weren't delivered too great, but he does make a good action hero and delivers some good fight sequences for us to witness. I'm not going to blame the guy though as he isn't a professional actor and could have easily given a horrible performance but he doesn't. Vinnie Jones is, well, Vinnie Jones - the same old Vinnie Jones with the accent, gritting of the teeth and tough face - and yet still gives a good performance. Tory Mussett, who I had only seen in the terrible Boogeyman, also gives a good performance and this time round has a character to work with. The others are good too, and there's not one performance in the movie that I could say was bad acting. While The Condemned could have gotten a higher rating from me if it had had a few better fights and a bit more screen time for some characters, it hardly has anything negative about it. It's a great action movie with lots of explosions, fights and action to keep you entertained. Don't let the fact that it is made by WWE put you off the movie, it's a great action movie and definitely worth checking out if you want a great action movie to watch.

Magicians

The Brits can deliver regarding comedy at the cinema, no, no, i don't mean "Carry On... ". But i mean films like "The Full Monty". "Magicians" deliver completely. Despite some rude and bad language, highly forgivable, the whole thing is charming, cute, without any pretension and funny. Typical from the brits regarding the subject. I enjoyed it completely, and recommend it. If you like " The Full Monty", you will like this one. The actors, quite unknowed, do their part well. And there is not "space", no moment of waiting. It just delivers from A to finish. You won't laugh every seconds, but the over whole of the movie is funny. While I have been very disappointed with brits-com like "Love actually", one of the worst movie i have even seen in my life, the little budget "Magicians" manages far better. A nice surprise, wonderful. Thank you !

First Born

This film set out to creep you out, and it succeeds at that. It's a sad tale of self loathing actually, where a woman knows she is not up to taking care of a baby, especially by herself, but can't seem to ask for help, or when she does, she is dismissed as being overprotective or overreacting. Typical. The mood of the film is dark as is the beautiful house that it takes place in. And the feeling is one of isolation both physically and emotionally. This woman is on her own. Her own mother didn't come to visit because "she hates to fly". Well get a Greyhound ticket and come over. You don't stay away when your child has their first child. With that and a busy husband, you get the sense of this woman's struggle of feeling unfit, wanting to be a good mother but unable to because she can't sleep, she can't eat and when she does try to have a normal existence, she locks herself in the basement and can't feed her newborn baby. She can't even color her hair, something that women do everyday without mishap, but she can't seem to do it. The movie was great. Watch it at night by yourself. Elizabeth Shue's performance is gut-wrenching.

Shredderman Rules

This film is about a frequently bullied schoolboy turning into a secret hero, saving the town from environmental devastation.

The plot is entirely predictable, it follows all the formula you can think of. All the scenes are visually rich and colourful, making the film pleasant and cheerful to watch. The characters are great, I have great sympathy for Nolan, and I despise Alvin the bully! It is great entertainment for kids and teenagers. It spreads a positive message about the weak does not have to be the weak all the time. Anyone can achieve if they worked hard! This film is not groundbreaking, but it will bring a smile to your face.

Puzzlehead

Puzzlehead is truly entertaining and thought provoking. Though one finds oneself wishing more information given concerning the general history of the haunting setting of the movie, it is well worth seeing. The movie appeals both to true science fiction aficionados and to those who prefer the dramatic or symbolic. I found myself completely drawn in to the movie. Additionally, because of the nature of the special effects used in the filming of the movie, there is little to no feeling of artificiality as is common with so many modern movies of ANY genre. For personal comparison, I enjoyed Puzzlehead much, MUCH more than I did Spielberg's "A.I."

Peaceful Warrior

A truly inspiring movie that everyone can relate to in some way. This movie is not going to please everyone because you have to see it for what it is, a movie about self awareness, its not a typical 'lets go out on a Friday night to be entertained' kind of movie. It's not just about gymnasts; anyone can relate to it. Take this movie for what it is, don't read too far into the message and you will enjoy it. Some people are saying it's a cheesy movie with an overplayed message, but I say that those people don't even see what the movie is about. Maybe it didn't speak to them, and maybe their expectations were off. The message is certainly not over-played, and there needs to be more movies of this up-coming genre.
